A new document has been published setting out guidelines for organisations operating internships to ensure they are fair, open and of a high standard.
The government’s Best Practice Code for High-Quality Internships has been launched by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) in conjunction with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
It is hoped that the guidance will help companies and organisations improve the standard of their internships and open them up to the best candidates irrespective of their social background.
A group of professional bodies will also be launched representing more than a million workers from the human resources, legal, accountancy, property and engineering sectors. It is hoped the organisations will provide a better understanding of how the different professions contribute to the UK economy and society as whole.
Jackie Orme, CIPD Chief Executive said: “As the ‘gatekeepers of recruitment’, members of the HR profession have a unique and vital role to play in ensuring that recruitment practices are open and transparent, and internships are well-managed.”
