GP alliance manager wins ‘Commissioner of the Year’

A contract manager for a GP alliance in Sunderland has been awarded “Commissioner of the year” at an awards ceremony in London.

A contract manager for a GP alliance in Sunderland has been awarded “Commissioner of the year” at an awards ceremony in London.

Judith Taylor, who works at Sunderland GP Alliance, was given the award at last night’s General Practice Awards – run by The Commissioning Review's publishers, Cogora – for leading the implementation of the General Practice Input into Community Integrated Teams (CIT) across the area’s 51 practices.

Sunderland has five multi-disciplinary CITs that are made up of are made up of district nurses, communitymatrons, general practitioners, practice nurses, social care professionals, living well link workers and carers support workers.

The service, which is part of the Sunderland vanguard programme, “All Together Better”, sees each CIT supported by their own GP, who leads clinical decision-making to ensure that the medical, social and emotional needs of their patient are taken into account.

Taylor has worked closely with all 51 GP practices and health and social care partners to develop and implement the service. This is the first service of its kind in Sunderland.

She told The Commissioning Review, that she was “overwhelmed” by the win but said it was all the hard work, commitment and “drive to keep going and provide the best for the patients of Sunderland” that made her stand out.

Taylor added that the win was an important part of sharing best practice and sharing “good work that could be spread across the whole of the country”.

Other winners include Dr Jonathan Grant Cope for GP of the year, Dr Ruth Heseltine for GP trainee of the year, Sandwell & West Birmingham CCG for general practice team of the year, Karin Bruce for Practice Manager of the year, Deborah Allcock for Nurse of the year and Fens and Brecks Care Home Matron Service for nursing team of the year.
