12 April 2017

Birmingham-based primary care vanguard, Modality Partnership, is expanding to include four more GP practices in Hull from this month.

Modality, which is a multispecialty community provider (MCP) pilot site, will now look after back-office functions such as indemnity, governance and CQC preparations on behalf of the Hull practices to free up GP time.

The expansion will bring the total number of patients covered by Modality to 150,000, including 48,000 in Hull.

The four practices to join Modality are Faith House Surgery, New Hall Surgery, Newland Group Medical Practice and Springhead Medical Centre.

Dr Ros Davies, a partner at New Hall Surgery and lead for the Hull division of Modality, said the practices chose to join the vanguard because they share ‘the same ethos and vision for the future’ of primary care.

She said: ‘By being a part of a larger group of GP practices, we can realistically achieve our goals and deliver excellent patient care for all.

‘This will help us to improve access and care for all of our patients and to create sustainable GP services that are fit for the future.’

Hull has recently suffered with a shortage of GPs, opting to train and recruit doctors from the EU in an effort to fill posts.

In joining the vanguard, the 16 GP partners in Hull will become partners of Modality and pool their budgets.

The vanguard operates across 25 different sites in Birmingham, Sandwell, Walsall and Hull.

Dr Naresh Rati, head of Modality Partnership said he ‘welcomes’ Modality’s expansion.

He said: ‘It is great working with like-minded local GPs who are coming together to transform general practice in their local area.’
